Wanted: Leadership That Works.

We are Members for Truth and Justice, and this is our No-Bunk Zone.

We are members of Local 1-2, Utility Workers of America, AFL-CIO, who have something in common. We want and demand a much better Union. In recent years many of us supported the Justice Party because it was the “lesser of the two evils.” Our Union was just getting back on its feet after a ruinous trusteeship and it needed rebuilding. Rather than let the members who worked for the trusteeship continue to run the Union into the ground, we strived to restore democracy, good contracts and first-class representation to the membership.

We almost made it, but then along came the current Administration, headed by Emanuel Hellen. After trying to work with and under him, we found ourselves blocked by his bad work habits, his lack of vision and, worst of all, his need to surround himself with cronies who were “along for the ride.” They wanted the perks but not the responsibility of being Union officials and had no real idea how to serve the membership, assuming they had the desire. We tried to minimize the effects of Hellen’s shortcomings, praying things would get better and working to achieve that goal. When that wasn’t happening, we spoke out, as was our right and duty. Hellen’s reaction was to try to crush us. HE HAS FAILED – AGAIN.

Local 1-2 Members demand the Truth.

We go back a long way with this Union. Some of us have over 35 years under our belts, and we come from all segments of the utility industry. We have a tradition of Union-building and of battling for the membership, and we will fight tooth and nail to stop selfishness from destroying our precious Local and the democratic ideals American men and women have fought for and are fighting for all over the world. We were there to turn around this Local in the late 1980’s and much of the ‘90’s, only to witness steady backsliding since then despite our work. WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH. We are resolved to put this Union back on the right track – meaning officers who care and who will work hard, contracts that we are not ashamed to ratify – and keep it on track once and for all.

We are Members for Truth and Justice. We are here to change things for the better. This is our website, and we hope you make it yours as well. Here we will provide you with information you won’t get anywhere else. We’ll tell you things Hellen won’t, because he doesn’t want you to know about them. Apathy is lethal – and so is letting the current Administration continue to misrepresent you and serve you poorly.
